Epiphany & Confirmation
'...entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother and bowed in homage to him;...'
Matthew ii, 11
The current incarnation of the Epiphany celebrates the good news of Our Lord being spread around the world - the most common version of this is that of the Wise Men attending the baby Jesus, and then travelling back home, avoiding Herod, and telling all they came across the good news of Jesus' birth. The Wise Men, with the shepherds, were the first witnesses of Christ. We celebrate this important event with a sung mass on the evening of the 6th January.
We are happy that three of our young people will be confirmed on 24th January at the same time that we celebrate our Patronal Festival (Conversion of Saul). Following a period of training, candidates confirm the vows their parents made on their behalf at their baptism to live according to God's will - the bishop and the church will pray for those intentions during the service. We are pleased that Bishop Tony of Pontefract will be at St Paul's to preside at the Confirmation and Patronal festival.
